Blairsville Receives $281,400 State Grant

DCNR funding for trail development, ballfield rehabilitation

Blairsville Borough will receive a $281,400 Community Conservation Partnerships Program (CCPP) grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to improve its recreational facilities, according to Senator Don White and Representative Dave Reed.

Funding for the grant comes from money approved by a voter referendum for the state's Growing Greener program which is dedicated to recreational projects.

Blairsville will use the funding for the development of the Blairsville river trail and ballfield rehabilitation efforts.

The trail work includes the construction of approximately 2.1 miles of trail from WyoTech Park to the northern end of Riverfront Park, erosion and sediment control, ADA access, comfort station and other improvements.

The ballfield work at WyoTech Park and Borough Little League fields include installation of fencing, backstops, bleachers, lighting, ADA access, and other improvements.

The CCPP provides financial and technical assistance to local governments, land trusts, river and trail organizations and other non-profit organizations for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway areas.

"These projects complement the ongoing overall development of the Blairsville community," Senator White said. "These efforts to improve the community's recreational facilities definitely enhance the economic success of the Corporate Campus and the development and expansion of the region's infrastructure, while increasing the attractiveness of southern Indiana County as a place to live and do business."

"This is good news for Blairsville, Indiana County and all local residents," Representative Reed said. "Grants that Pennsylvania provides for parks and recreation areas are long-term investments in communities and in improving the quality of life for everyone."
