For Immediate Release Municipalities May Apply for Environmental GrantsCommunities may receive up to $20,000 to curb greenhouse gas emissionsLocal municipalities can now apply for up to $20,000 under a new grant program aimed at curbing greenhouse gas emissions, according to Senator Don White (R-41). The deadline for submitting applications is Aug. 29. Under the new Local Government Greenhouse Gas Pilot Grant Program, communities-- individually or as a regional cooperative effort--apply for grants to hire technicians to determine the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and develop plans to reduce those emissions. "I am urging the communities in the 41st Senatorial District to look into this grant program. It is intended to improve air quality, while assisting municipalities in finding ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs," Senator White said. Individual municipalities can qualify for up to $20,000. A regional application, with multiple municipalities, can request greater amounts, but not more than $20,000 per participating municipality.
